Erma S. Brundidge
Foster Parent Trainer

After 17 years of Service to the State of Oregon, our Beloved Érma Brundidge has retired.
Érma was a family therapist for 27 years before retiring and becoming the lead trainer for foster and adoptive families, for the Oregon Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Program in Marion, Polk and Yamhill County.  She has dedicated her life’s work to speaking to the effect that trauma has on children and their future life and relationships.  Having grown up in an abusive home, in and out of foster care, Érma’s personal experiences gives even greater insights that she passes on to care providers.  She has used the gifts revealed to her along her own path to help others find the way out of fear, while discovering their own path to truth and love. Érma is leaving us a legacy of hope.  She has written two books: Tree Walkers Gift and From Fear to Love.  You can find them HERE.

Gwen Slippy
Foster Parent Trainer
I have had the privilege of working at DHS Child Welfare as a Permanency caseworker since August 2013. Prior to becoming a caseworker, I was a Foster Parent for 7 years and through that process my husband and I adopted two of our four children. I've been where you are!

I am excited to be in this position and part of this team because I believe we need to put just as much work into retaining or developing our certified families as we do to recruit them. Retention and recruitment will more naturally occur whenever people feel involved, respected, appreciated, and valued as members of a team of professionals working together to create permanence for children. When people have these kind of experiences they will naturally encourage others to come alongside and be involved as well.

It has been an honor to be mentored by Érma Brundidge, the previous trainer.  I look forward to carrying on her legacy of supporting, developing, and equipping our families with the information and tools they need to successfully care for our children that come from hard places.  As the Foster Parent Trainer for District 3, it is a privilege to walk alongside our families to help them build on their capacity to serve from a place that promotes self-care, self-compassion and encourages an empathetic awareness and response for the children and families they encounter.  Empowering our families to keep showing up for children and their families is not merely a job, it is my heart and passion!

Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you -
