Respite Care

What is Respite Care?

As defined on page 4 of the Certifications Standards (DHS9303):

(19) "Relief or Respite Care" Means:

  1. A formal planned arrangement to relieve a certified family’s responsibilities by a person temporarily assuming responsibility for the care and supervision of the child or young adult; or
  2. Assistance provided by a person who comes into the home of the certified family to care for the child or young adult in the care or custody of the Department.

The Marion County branch of The Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Certification has created a formalized respite list and referral program for their certified foster families. This is one of the new resources that Marion County is utilizing to help support and retain our foster families.
